Miami on its way to be another City for Fashion

Miami Fashion Week is starting this week and more and more well known designers and new ones are coming to this year’s edition which has a new face.

Designers as Angel Sanchez, Silvia Tcherassi and René Ruiz are to be found in the 5 days of runway shows, galas and other events, hosted by Hollywood actor and fashion designer Antonio Banderas, the official Honorary President of the Miami Fashion Week.

A new team took over the Fashion Week and is working on putting it in the international map of the fashion world. Similar to Art Basel, the aim is to transform MFW into a very elevated, exiting unique fashion week show.

Miami is getting more & more attractive to more fashion companies from Latin America, Europe and elsewhere.

I really can see that fashion in Miami is very creative, full of color & vitality. Miami people are very social and we have a dress code for most events called "Miami Chic". People really like to dress up for every event and the climate all year long permits it.

I met Silvia Tcherassi many years ago and she started producing her designs in South America and then got suppliers in Europe. Miami was always a strategic place for her. Here in the “Capital” of South America she has her atelier and a ready-to-wear boutique. Naeem Khan just moved to Miami as well opening another big fashion space and so did designer Angel Sanchez. Both high end top haute couture designers as well. Both came from New York down here, seeing potential in Miami.

I participated in several fashion shows as host, model and celebrity in past Miami Fashion weeks and was missing somehow the real international flair, but can sense that change is in the air and that is amazing.

Designers as Custo Barcelona, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Julian Chang, a benefit gala, lots of media and other events are all new great contributions for the new growing Miami Fashion week. Miami is ready for the international fashion industry and Miami loves fashion.
