My favorite Poseidon Temple in Sounion
The Poseidon Temple in Cap Sounion is located 50 km south of Athens and via the serpentine road following the seashore you can reach it easy. You find this breathtaking temple built 440 BC on top of a huge cliff. Poseidon was the God of the seas and after Zeus, the most powerful of all! This beautiful architectural wonder was built to worship and honor him each year. In ancient Greece there were so many different gods for every aspects of life and the old greeks worshiped all of them: one for good fortune, protection, health, fertility, war, underworld ….and so many more.
The greeks went to their temples and did amazing offerings to them and so did sailors and politicians. They made offerings to the gods as animals and even objects of high values. Greek Gods were inmortal but understood human emotions.
Since a very young girl I came to this temple and with friends later on I even played, danced, meditated in the middle of this so amazing temple.
Today you can not enter it anymore and security makes sure you do not sit or touch anything.
Everytime I visit this place, I feel its magic and amazing things happen there or just after.
I meet very special people or suddenly something unexpected happens.Strange! Are the gods maybe still there? Pls. see my video ¨Inspired, ¨shot there and photos and get a bit of the feeling. It is always extremely hot and windy when I am there, but it is so romantic and very up lifting. It is extraordinary indeed.
They say, this magnificent construction is built on the spot where the european mountains end. To watch a full moon there, is like something beyond everything! I tell you, once, I spent new year inside the temple, an experience I will never forget. Inside the temple it was warm, and outside of it, cold and I danced for hours on a big stone in the middle of the magic place. Unforgettable!!!
The old greeks knew why they built exactly there and how they had to built it. To watch a sunset there is far more than a wow sensation.

Mythology of Cap Sounion: It says that King Egeo of Athens waited for his son who left for Crete to fight the minotaurus and who told his father that when he would return in victory he would raise the white flag, but if he dies he would raise the black one. When he finally returns in victory he is so overwhelmed that he forgets to raise the white flag and when his father sees the black one, he jumps off the cliff. That why the sea is called Egeo!

El templo de Poseidon in Cap Sounion queda 50 km de Atenas hacia el sur sobre un acantilado hermoso! El templo se construyó en 440 BC (antes de Cristo). Poseidon era el Dios de los Mares y después de Zeus, el mas poderoso.
Este templo se construyó para honrarlo! Dioses diferentes en la Grecia antigua gobernaron diferentes aspectos del mundo natural. Para tener buena fortuna, protección, salud, fertilidad, larga vida… entre muchas otras ...
Uno iba a estos sitios tan especiales para hacer ofrendas!
En la antigua Grecia todo el mundo iba a hacer sus ofrendas. Sacrificaban animales y entregaban ofrendas valiosas. Los dioses griegos eran inmortales pero podÃan experimentar emociones como los humanos.
Desde niña visito este templo hermoso e incluso con mis amigos jugamos, bailamos adentro del templo y luego mas tarde meditamos allÃ! Ya no se puede hacer esto, porque hoy en dÃa no se puede entrar en el templo y los guÃas cuidan, que no te pases las franjas. Siembre es mágico lo que siento allà y siempre pasan cosas raras allà o justo después de haber estado allÃ!
Me encuentro con gente muy especial o pasan cosas impresionantes! Será que aún los dioses están all�

Siempre hace mucho calor o viento cuando voy, pero es tan romántico y me eleva e inspira tanto estar allÃ.Es un lugar fuera de lo común. Dicen que este templo esta construido sobre el punto donde terminan las cordilleras europeas. Las lunas llenas allà son increÃbles y una vez festejé el año nuevo allà mismo y bailé en el medio del templo sobre una inmensa roca. Los antiguos griegos sabÃan porque construyeron los templos en estos lugares y sabÃan exactamente como los tenÃan que construir. Los atardeceres te quitan el aliento.
Leyenda de Cap SOUNION: La leyenda cuenta que el rey Egeo de Atenas esperaba su hijo Teseos, quien se fue para la isla de Creta a pelear con el MÃnotauro y le dijo a su padre, que si su barco regresaba triunfante pondrÃa una bandera blanca y si habÃa muerto una bandera negra, pero en la emoción se olvidó de poner la bandera blanca por haber ganado la pelea y dejaron la negra, y al ver esto su padre se tiro del acantilado.Y por eso el mar se llama EGEO!
